PhD Program for International Students

Academic year 2019/2020

Due to changes in the Law on Higher Education in Poland, Faculty of Management will no longer offer a PhD program. For this reason, recruitment of new PhD candidates is now closed.

However, we strongly encourage all willing candidates to discuss and start a long-distance research collaboration with one of the Faculty of Management professors (e.g. collecting data, analysing results, etc.). This will highly increase the chances of being accepted to the PhD program in the academic year 2018/2019. Candidates willing to do this are advised to seek contact with the professors (the list of potential future advisors can be found in the "List of PhD advisors" tab, which can be found on the left hand side of this page).

Application Requirements

Before applying for a PhD program, you need to get accepted by your future advisor - a step necessary, but not sufficient to being admitted. The list of professors interested in accepting international students to their research teams can be found in the tab on the left-hand side.

Please contact a chosen advisor directly. Your e-mail should also consist of the following documents:

  •   Copy of the Master’s Diploma and your official academic records/transcript (PLEASE NOTE: If your degree was awarded by an authorised institution operating in the education system of one of the EU, EFTA, or OECD countries it is recognized as equivalent to the appropriate Polish degree. If your degree was acquired in any other country, you will have to go through a long nostrification procedure carried out by the faculty commission. For more information click here and here. The list of the documents needed to start a nostrification procedure at the Faculty of Management is available here).
  •   Statement of purpose  (for more information see FAQ section below)

How to write a statement of purpose?  Describe your reasons for applying to the PhD program at the Faculty of Management. Write about your prior research experiences or projects that have prepared you for PhD study. Explain what is the research area that you would like to contribute to and give an example of a research project you find interesting: one you have already conducted and would like to expand or one you would like to conduct. Explain what were the reasons for choosing the potential advisor you did.

What kind of English language certificate should I provide? Faculty of Management requires the applicants whose native language is not English to prove their knowledge of English language. The preferred certificate is the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree or a master's degree program where English was the main language of instruction are not required to take the TOEFL. Other acceptable certificates (at least b2 level) - GMAT, IELTS, CAE, CPE.

Should I send the paper versions of the documents? At an initial stage, it is sufficient to send the scanned documents by e-mail. Once you are accepted we will expect you to send us all the documents in paper versions.

Do I need to reside in Poland for the duration of the PhD program? Even though we do not provide regular classes for international PhD students, they are required to work under close supervision of their advisors. For this reason, it is crucial to determine the frequency of personal contact with your chosen advisor.

Can I do my PhD research only, without enrolling to the classes? We do not offer regular classes to our international PhD students. All work is coordinated and supervised by an advisor.

Can I enroll for PhD at your faculty with waiver from tuition fees? Unfortunately, we cannot currently offer our international students a tuition fee waiver. However, we would advise you to apply for research grants from international or Polish science foundations (e.g. National Science Centre).
